Gerry’s Goals
The safety of our schools, communities, and roadways is paramount. We must work together and be proactive to find real solutions to community safety concerns. This can only be accomplished when law enforcement and the people they serve form a partnership, and keep the lines of communications open. As your Sheriff, my deputies and I will be committed to providing the highest level of customer service to all of Johnston County, with pride, integrity and professionalism.
Therefore, as your Sheriff, my goals are to:
- Put into immediate service, a “Traffic Safety Unit” to educate young drivers and enforce hazardous motor vehicle violations around schools and throughout Johnston County.
- Seek Law Enforcement Accreditation, which will promote greater accountability in the agency, reduce risk and liability exposure, provide stronger defense against civil lawsuits, promotes better resource management and service-delivery, and increase community advocacy.
- Exercise conservative fiscal principles with the tax dollars of Johnston County citizens.
- Seek advanced law enforcement training for agency personnel, to better equip them to deal with the complex issues faced by law enforcement professionals today (e.g., Leadership/Supervisor, Advanced Investigation: Arson, Domestic Violence, Gangs, and Diversity Training).
- Initiate a “Community Outreach Program” to maintain an open, on-going dialog with all residents about their concerns, while forming partnerships to address community safety issues.
- Partner with businesses, community leaders, and other area law enforcement agencies to create and implement programs which could lead to the reduction of juvenile and teen involvement in criminal activities (e.g., Law Enforcement Youth Athletic League, Junior Deputy Program, and/or Mentoring Program).
- Implement a multi-agency drug task force to bring together county law enforcement agencies to fight against illegal drugs in Johnston County.
- Establish a “Youth Leadership Safety Program” to educate youth about the negative consequences of using drugs and alcohol, increase awareness about the dangers of joining a gang, and to promote safe driving habits.
- Evaluate and implement checks and balances to ensure detention personnel are ethical at all times while dealing with persons held in the Johnston County Detention Center, and explore methods to improve efficiency.
“Protecting our Communities in Partnership with our Citizens!”
